New to extensions? It's essential to let your scalp adjust that there's now a foreign object attached with added weight. Our installation process is carefully done with scalp health in mind from the beginning. We'll keep a watchful eye on this aspect as you wear Luxury Hair Extensions.
The longevity of your extensions depends on 3 crucial factors:
1. Products: Use recommended leave-in conditioner and oil on damp or dry hair in the morning and at night. Avoid protein-based "repairing" products and stick to those specifically designed for extensions (shampoo, conditioner, oil, detangler, heat protectant).
2. Brushing: When brushing dry hair, separate rows and hold the base of the extensions while gently working from ends to base. A Wet Brush is recommended for best results.
3. Heat Styling: To maintain the health and lifespan of your extensions, allow your hair to air dry at least 50% before using hot tools or blow drying. Excessive heat exposure can lead to dryness and damage.
-
Washing your extensions may seem daunting at first, but don't worry, they're not going anywhere. It will become routine after a few washes. If you live in an area with hard water, consider using a filtered shower head.
1st shampoo: Focus on the natural hair around the part line and hairline.
2nd shampoo: Gently use two fingers to focus in between the extension rows.
Conditioner: Apply generously to the mids and ends as needed.
Rinse thoroughly between rows.
If you have well or city water, be aware of potential discoloration that can build up on both your natural and extension hair. Consider purchasing a shower head filter from Amazon to help prevent this issue.

Styling Routine:
After washing, my go-to styling routine includes:
Applying product
Blow drying the base of the extensions
Allowing the hair to air dry overnight in loose braids or loose ponytail
Sleep on a silk pillowcase, to reduce damage and hair breakage
In the morning, adding a few curls or styling as needed
Or letting the extensions air dry most of the way before blow drying on medium heat.
Spray in dry shampoo as needed to the base of your natural hair only, always follow up with leave-in conditioner to mids and ends to refresh after thermal styling.
Remember these heat styling tips:
Always use a heat protectant.
Keep your hot tool temperatures low 300°F or below & try not to hold it for a long amount of time. This will dramatically shorten the life of extensions.
Limit your heat styling to 2-3 times a week.
When wearing a high ponytail or topknot with Luxury Hand-tied Extensions, follow these tips:
With the flexible tension of these extensions, you can pull your hair up without visibility or discomfort.
Wear the ponytail or topknot very high or low, near the occipital bone or on the top of your head.
Allow the extensions to "flip" over by flipping your head over when pulling your hair up.
Neglecting this step may cause damage and create the appearance of "flaps" or "wings" if the ponytail is closer to the center of the head, causing tension near the front of the extensions.
Use a silk scrunchie, invisibobble, or non-abrasive hair tie to avoid breakage on both your natural hair and the extensions if wearing this style frequently.
-
Here are some recommended practices for maintaining your extensions:
Wash your hair twice a week for optimal scalp health.
Use a moisturizing mask once a week to keep your hair hydrated.
Keep your hair tangle-free by brushing it frequently.
Apply serums and a clear oil daily to moisturize the ends of your hair.
Before going into the ocean, coat your extension hair with filtered water and a leave-in conditioner to act as a barrier. Follow up with a clarifying shampoo immediately after. (Note: Avoid dunking your hair in oceans, rivers, lakes, and pools for optimal extension longevity.)
Consider investing in a water filter for your shower head to prevent unwanted minerals from depositing on your hair and extensions.
-
Avoid These Mistakes:
Do not go to bed with wet hair. If necessary, blow dry the base of the extensions to prevent matting.
Avoid pulling, scratching, or disturbing the base of the extensions to prevent damage.
Refrain from putting your hair in a bun or ponytail that causes excessive tension or pulling at the front of your extensions. Opt for styles that are either high on top of your head or low.
Do not use high heat with hot tools; keep temperatures below 300 degrees and ensure blow dryer filters are clean and set to medium heat.
Avoid products containing sulphates, parabens, or high levels of protein.
Be cautious with dry shampoo as excessive use can dry out the extensions.
Do not attempt to remove extensions at home to protect the health of your natural hair.
For Blondes Only:
Avoid overusing purple shampoo on extensions as they can absorb the violet pigment faster than your natural hair, resulting in a violet hue.
Refrain from touching blonde hair with SPF products, as they may cause the hair to turn peach or mauve in color. To prevent this, tie your hair up and out of the way when applying sunscreen, or use mineral sunscreen like 'Bare Republic' that does not discolor extension hair. Remember to wash your hands applying sunscreen.
avoid sunscreens + makeup with avobenzene, avobenzone, oxybenzone, homosalate, oxtinoxate, octocylene, octisalate as it will cause a chemical reaction with your extensions and cause discoloration.
